‘Tis the season for fraud
With the holidays right around the corner, ‘tis the season for fraud. We’ve heard reports of an uptick in debit card phishing attempts, which aim to get a victim to release sensitive information that can be used for identity theft.
Most recently, fraudsters send a text message to a cardholder requesting they call an 800 telephone number because their “account is locked.” When the cardholder calls the number, they’re asked to enter their card number or other personal information such as their PIN, Social Security number or mobile device codes.
Tips for your CSB&T debit card:
- Legitimate texts will come from 72718 (SHAZAM) and will never ask for card numbers or other personal details.
- If you have question about the legitimacy of a call or text, contact the bank or SHAZAM’s fraud team at 866-508-2693.
