A Letter From The President

If you are reading this, you are using technology that was unheard of a generation ago. This electronic letter is my chance to tell you a little about the culture at Citizens State Bank & Trust Co. I may be able to do that best by relaying a few quotes from a letter to customers written in 1901, only 1 year after opening its doors, by the then bank president, Henry McManes.

We solicit the business of merchants, stockmen, farmers and individuals, and will in all respects take care of our customers, consistent with good, safe banking.

I could not have said that better 116 years later. Mr. McManes could not know the future, but I believe he would be pleased to see that we still wish to do business with merchants, stockmen, farmers and individuals, and plan to take care of our customers in all respects consistent with good, safe banking.

Mr. McManes went on to say -

We ask that you make a careful investigation of the Citizens State Bank, and see if it will not pay you to place your hard earned savings with us for safekeeping; come and ask us all the questions you please, and see if we are not organized and conducting our business on the safest and surest plan possible.

These words were written over 115 years ago by a bank president leading a fledgling business on the Kansas Prairie. Citizens State Bank & Trust Co. has been locally owned and managed for its entire history. We have survived many tough times -- the dust bowl days of the 1930s, the great depression of that same era, two world wars, the agricultural crisis of the 1980s, and the recession in 2008. Throughout that time, our foremost goal has been quite simply to serve the banking needs of our customers.

I will allow Mr. McManes’ close of his letter to be the closing of mine as well - -

You are always welcome at our place of business. Come in and get acquainted with us whether you transact business or simply visit us.

Best Regards,
David W. Brownback
President/CEO
